The PhD program aims at providing students with an advanced preparation in the sector of innovative technologies for environmental protection. This is a very up-to-date topic also in consideration of the continuous evolution of the legislation regarding the protection of land, water and the atmosphere. Therefore, in this respect the study of the following themes is of particular interest and constitutes a formative goal of the PhD program: tertiary wastewater treatment processes, treatment processes for soil and waterbeds contaminated by heavy metals and organic compounds, the development of innovative procedures for the evaluation of sanitary and environmental risk deriving from contaminated sites, capture, storage and utilization processes for CO₂ emissions from point sources, the technical and managerial implementation of abatement and control systems for pollutants from waste to energy plants, the integrated waste management cycle and techniques for reducing the production and hazardousness of waste treatment residues.
