The School

In the European Union there are around 250,000 contaminated sites, including large brownfield sites and active industrial areas as well as a huge number of small sites, such as gasoline retail stations. The remediation effort will have in the coming years a relevant impact on EU member states economy, with current expenditures around the 0.05% of annual GDP. The introduction of sustainability criteria in the choice, design and management of contaminated sites is expected to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of both private and public efforts for remediation of contaminates sites.

What
SUSTAINABLE REMEDIATION Summer School for International Students is offering a 14-days intensive program aims at increasing awareness and knowledge in the use and application of sustainability criteria in the choice, design and management of techniques for the remediation of contaminated sites. The course is taught by Tor Vergata School of Engineering Senior and Junior Faculty Members and international major EU experts in the field coming from University partners that are : University of Nottingham, Wageningen University, Universidad Complutense De Madrid, AGH University of Science and Technology.
English is the official language.

Where / When
The Summer School will be held in Rome from June 22 – July 5, 2014.

Why
Residential life is as much a part of the course experience to make lifelong international connections.  Students will be housed at Campus X, a residential structure to be enjoyed, laid out with green areas, study areas, sports and catering and equipped with wi-fi cover, next to the School of Engineering.  The course lasts for 125 hours:  student skill presentations (10), faculty lectures and workshops (60 hours lessons), assisted learning and training activities (20 hours), preparation of a final project (20 hours),  social and cultural activities (15 hours).  100% of attendance is mandatory to be awarded with 5 credits ECTS.

Who
Students must be Master or Ph.D ones and must be in good academic standing. The number of students admitted to the school is limited. Possible variations of this number will be evaluated with respect to the possibility of improving or increasing the teaching resources available. The Summer School participation is open to 25 students from LLP partners University and up to a maximum number of 6 students from third Universities. According to the Erasmus IP rules (LLP, Lifelong Learning Programme) 25 scholarships are available reserved to the students of university partners. The scholarship will cover travel, accommodation, one meal per day and filed visit and cultural activities.

How to apply
The Summer School Scientific Committee has the authority to select the applicant students and to evaluate the curricula and background qualifications. Each partner will evaluate the CVs and send the names and contacts of the selected students. Admitted participants should expect full-time involvement in the Programme from June 22 to July 5, 2014. A certificate of attendance will be given to all participants who successfully complete the Course.
